Goi Cuon

This is one of the easiest Vietnamese dishes you can make, and it’s delicious! It’s also takes less than an hour to prepare. It’s called Goi Cuon in Vietnamese, but others know it as spring rolls. It’s a thin rice wrap that’s hard at first, but once you dip it in warm water it becomes very soft and sticky. Inside is boiled shrimp and pork sliced very thin, with thin rice noodles. For vegetables, you may add bean sprouts, lettuce, green onion, and mints to your liking. The only hard thing about this dish, is when you roll it yourself. But after one or two, you should have no problem rolling them after. At my house my mom prepares everything on the table, so when you roll it you may add whatever you want to it. You can make it small or big, your choice! After you’re done rolling them, you may now enjoy it. We have a dark brown sauce that you dip the spring rolls in, which is hoisin mixed with a bit of peanut butter and crushed roasted peanuts. You may also add sirracha sauce which is a Vietnamese hot sauce to make it spicy. The sauce is what enhances the taste of the spring rolls, when it‘s warm it tastes even better. It may seem like just an appetizer dish, but four to five of these bad boys will make you full. When you bite into the roll, the outer is soft and sticky. It sticks to your lips, but once you fully bite into it you can hear the vegetables crunch, and the combination of the shrimp, pork, and the sauce savors in your mouth. Your mouth is full of goodness! I highly recommend anyone to try this dish, if they’re up for something new and different. Everyone of my friends like it, plus it’s different but not to the point where you’re scared to try it.
(home made and rolled by me =])
